Samuels got her collegiate career off to a great start, taking first place in the women's shot put out of 21 competitors at the Linfield Icebreaker. She hit a mark of 13.47 meters, a qualifier for the NWAC Championships.
"Leonie is a great addition to our team. She works very hard and it is nice to see the hard work pay off," said Head Coach Alan King. "It will be fun to continue to see her develop across all the throwing events this season."
Assistant Coach Eldredge, who works with throwers, had this to say, "All the athletes have been working hard from fall training to now, so it's great to see big successes this early in the season for Leonie. This is just the start, and I look forward to seeing the momentum build throughout the rest of the season."
